Trends and thoughts on the world of new urbanism from Greater Boston and the across the World.
![]() A once heavy industrial area of Allston is about to make the transition into one of Boston’s newest Live/Work neighborhoods. Waypoint Companies gained BRA approval last week for a brand new, “innovative” 80 unit apartment complex on Braintree Street in Allston, abutting the Mass Pike. The project would involve a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom apartments as well as 2500 sq ft of coworking space to foster career and business development. This approval come hot on the heels of an announcement by Mayor Walsh stating that he’d like to create smaller innovation districts in every neighborhood. According to the MBTA’s plans for 2024, this development also sits only a few blocks from the proposed “West Station” which will provide direct “Indigo Line” access to Kendall Square and North Station. WIth the promise of new rapid transit direct to Cambridge and Downtown Boston coming soon, Braintree Street, and the surrounding neighborhoods certainly look to be ripe for redevelopment into an innovative, young working professionals and families district.
